Obituary

Carolyn “Carol” Carey of Chiefland, Florida passed away after a long battle with dementia and a recent cancer diagnosis.

Carol was born in Dover, Florida to Ollie and Arthur. She spent time over the years working odd jobs and as a waitress. She became a housewife after marrying Bill then moved to Tampa. She then retired to rural Chiefland in the mid-80's to live on family property. Following Bill's passing in 1989, Carol spent her time playing cards, traveling to visit family, and yelling at the cows that were leased on her property. Carol was known for her spit-fire spirit and witty retorts.

Carol is preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” B. Carey, and her sisters Florrie, Esther, and Elsie. She is survived by her sons James (Beth) Carey and John Andrew Carey, grandchildren Tabetha (Mike) Kelley and Jonathan (Ashley) Carey, great grandchildren Aubrey and Mikey Kelley and Emma, James, and Bennett Carey, many beloved nieces and nephews, and a network of Florida Cracker in-laws and outlaws that would make any genealogist lose their marbles.

Carol spent her later years in Ayers Nursing Home where she was known for her quick wit and feisty spirit.

Carol's final arrangements have been provided by Weems and Sons Funeral homes. The funeral service will be held at 11am on January 10th, 2026 at Sunset Memory Gardens located at 11005 US-301, Thonotosassa, FL 33592.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local Hospice organization.
