Catherine (Cassie) Lavonna Hamman better known as “Granny,” 94 of Gulf Hammock passed away December 11, 2025. Cassie was born on January 16, 1931, in Hillsdale, Michigan. She grew up in Wauseon, OH with her parents. She first moved to Orlando Florida, then to Gainesville, then Newberry before settling in Gulf Hammock, Florida in 2001. Cassie was a member of Countryside Baptist Church then Otter Creek Baptist Church as well as a founding member of Creekside Christian School. Cassie and her husband Dick served in AWANAS as Leaders in the Cubbies' class for many years. Cassie worked at the Alachua County Courthouse from 1969-1998, starting out as an assistant and then becoming Deputy Clerk of the Court until her retirement. She loved traveling, cleaning, westerns, shopping, and laughing with her family. She liked playing the piano and singing and was part of the gospel group “The New Life Singers” for 25 years. The love she had for her daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren was unmeasurable. She prayed for each one of them every day. The only thing she loved more than her family was her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She loved sharing her faith and was a powerful prayer warrior. She was more than just Granny to her own, she was also Granny to every single person she ever met; she introduced herself this way. Granny Hamman became who she was. Cassie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Charles Richard Hamman, her sister Shirley Raker of Ohio and her granddaughter “Liz” Elisabeth Marie Yearty of Gulf Hammock (12/14/2020). She is survived by her daughter and son-in- law, Lavonna “Vonnie” and Bill Keith of Gulf Hammock, her brother Eugene Heath of Ohio, Her grandson Billy Keith (Ginny) granddaughter Lauren Byrd(Jason), grandson-in-law Will Yearty (Liz) and her great- grandchildren Grayson Yearty, Gibbs Yearty (Isabelle), Serenity Yearty, Emma Grace King (Ben), Will Keith, Lawson Byrd, Everett Byrd, and Wiley Byrd, as well as many, many, “adopted” children. Funeral services will be Friday, December 19 at Otter Creek Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors Tim Campbell, Bill Keith, and Billy Keith officiating. Burial will follow the service at Countryside Cemetery in Gainesville. Visitation will be Friday, Dec 19 at 1:00 p.m. before the funeral at Otter Creek Baptist.
