Gene Babbitt

Gene Babbitt, 80, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. Gene was born in Polk County to the late Jack and Sarah Babbitt.

Gene graduated from Chamberlain High School in 1963. He was a resident of Levy County for 60 years. When Gene had to tackle a hard task, he never backed down. He mastered many talents, such as blacksmith, auctioneer, pilot, cattleman, and salesman, and was the owner of Ocala Livestock Market. Gene enjoyed fishing, hunting, and rodeos. He retired in 2006 and then spent his time on the water as a charter captain.

Gene is preceded in death by his father, Jack Babbitt, and his mother, Sarah Babbitt.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Pat Babbitt; his sister, Karen (Paul) Kwie; and his brothers, Larry (Patricia) Babbitt and John Babbitt.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
