Tammy Davis

Tammy Jo Davis (nee Stone), wife of David Davis and mother to Shay Denise Potts (nee Davis) and David Heath Davis, went home to be with Jesus on September 4, 2025. She was 67 years old.

Tammy is survived and mourned by her husband, David; daughter, Shay (husband, Chris Potts); granddaughter, Carsyn; son, Heath (partner Sara); mother, Cookie Groover Stone; sister, Dede; niece, Andi Jo (husband, Andy); grandnephews, Hayden and Hudson. She is predeceased by her father, Melvin Stone.

Born in Miami, Florida on August 11, 1958, Tammy and her family moved to Bronson in the early 1960s. During her school years, Tammy was a cheerleader and an active member of her local 4-H chapter. After graduating from Bronson High School in 1976, Tammy attended Central Florida Community College and then the University of Florida. She majored in agricultural and natural resource education and graduated with honors in 1981. Tammy and David were married in 1983 and they celebrated their forty-second anniversary in July.

Tammy's career as an educator spanned over four decades. During her first eight years in the classroom, Tammy taught vocational agriculture and served as a FFA advisor. In 1988, Tammy began her tenure at Williston Middle School. For the next thirty-two years, Tammy devoted herself to the students in her sciences classes, teaching them to seek out the indelible truths in the world around us. She was passionate about her subject, but her legacy at WMS reaches beyond the sciences; Tammy expected her collogues and her students to work hard, to do the best they could, and to behave with honesty and integrity. She refused to compromise those values herself, and she celebrated students who demonstrated them. She dearly loved to hear “success stories” about her former students, but she was most proud of those who went on to be content and fulfilled in the lives they had chosen.

A woman of equal warmth and wisdom, Tammy will be long-remembered for her hospitable and generous nature, the sincerity and practicality of her faith, and for the wit and intelligence she seemed to always wield with kindness. At holidays, her home was always open to anyone who needed a place to celebrate. If anyone needed prayer, a helping hand, a little grace, or the shirt off her back, it was given, and with joy. She was a woman of strong convictions who took great care to ensure that her beliefs were rooted in objective fact and research, tempered by kindness and empathy, and always open for discussion and growth.

She loved puzzles, Gator football, reading, her students, and, more than the rest combined, her family. A devotee of details, she never failed to remind her (adult) children of the million things they (probably hadn't) forgotten or to remember every little preference and particular that would make them feel seen and loved. The world is darker now for all who knew and morn her, but we take comfort in the knowledge that Tammy rejoices in the presence of the Lord.

A celebration of Tammy's life will be held at First Baptist Church of Williston on Thursday, September 11th, 2025. Visitation starts at 10:00 am. The service will be held at 11:00 am.
