Obituary
Thomas Jay Shutts, born May 26, 1981, in Kremmling, Colorado, was the beloved son of William Shutts and Annette (Hull) Shutts. Throughout his life, Thomas moved between Colorado and Florida, working alongside his parents in various roles before making his home in Inglis, Florida. Thomas spent several years as a commercial blue-crabber and net fisherman before beginning his service at Tampa General Hospital – Crystal River as an Environmental Services Technician.
Thomas had a deep love for the outdoors—especially fishing—and enjoyed spending time with the friends who became his chosen family. He shared a special bond with Clay Simpson and Terri Pollock, and with those he lovingly considered brothers or adopted siblings: Tyler Young; Isaac and Tracy Young; Madisyn Young; and his closest friend, Marshall Gilley.
Though Thomas faced many challenges throughout his life, he met every hardship with courage, determination, and remarkable resilience. His strength and honesty in confronting life's struggles inspired many, particularly those fighting to overcome addiction.
Thomas passed away on November 16, 2025, and is preceded in death by both of his parents, and is survived by family members in Colorado, Kansas, and Florida.
A public memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 11:30 AM at the Inglis Community Center, 135 Hwy 40 W, Inglis, FL 34449.
Arrangements are entrusted to Weems & Sons Funeral Homes, 512 East Noble Avenue Williston, Florida 32696.
