Walter Phelps, Jr.

July 15, 1954 - December 25, 2025

Obituary

Walter Joseph Phelps Jr., age 71, of Bronson, Florida, went peacefully to be with the Lord on December 25, 2025. He was born on July 15, 1954, in Washington, D.C., and spent most of his life in Florida.

Walter loved the Lord, his family, and his church, and he cherished his many friends. He had a strong work ethic and worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years. In his later years, he found great joy working on his mini farm, raising pigs, and spending time outdoors.

Walter was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Bronson, where he loved to serve and fellowship. He also had a heart for those struggling with addiction and recovery, and he helped start the Celebrate Recovery ministry at Bronson First Baptist Church, leaving a legacy of compassion, hope, and restoration that will continue to impact lives for years to come.

Walter is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Kay Phelps; his daughters, Amanda and Kristel (Brandon); his grandsons, Jack and Andrew; his mother, Kathryn Phelps; his sister, Sheri (Joe); and his nephew, James Moss (Katie). He is also survived by several beloved extended family members and friends.

Walter was preceded in death by his father, Walter J. Phelps Sr.

Walter will be greatly missed, but his family rejoices in knowing he is now in the presence of his Savior.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 3rd, 2026 at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Bronson. Pastor John Coker will officiate.

Donations to the Bronson First Baptist Church Building Fund will be accepted in lieu of flowers.
