JAMES RUFUS MEEKS, Jr James Rufus Meeks, Jr (Jim) passed away peacefully surrounded by his devoted wife, Carolyn, his children and grandchildren on Sunday, May 9th at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Jim was born on August 29, 1933 to James Rufus Meeks, Sr and Marie Gilley Meeks. He was raised in Ellzey, FL where he met the love of his life, Carolyn. They were married for 66 years. He began his teaching career in Webster, FL and then moved to Tallahassee, FL to teach Shop and Agriculture at several schools in Leon County. Rickards High School was his favorite. He retired from teaching in 1985 and enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Barbara Ann Meeks Harwood, and his Grandson, James Bryan Henry. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Carolyn, his sons Jamie (Linda) and David, daughters Nancy Davis (Darrell) and Vicki, a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren along with four special men that Jim held dear to his heart. Those are Glyn Holmes, Murray and Terry Tillis, Joe Joe Knauff along with Laurel Pierce. The family will receive friends 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Bevis Funeral Home and on Friday, May 14, 2021 the family will receive friends at the Knauff Funeral Home in Chiefland between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made by credit card or PayPal at www.nofretguitarcamp.org or mailed to No Fret Guitar Camp, 8205 Woodrose Glen Way, Tampa, FL 33647. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Ellzey United Methodist Church 1450 SW County Road 336, Intersection of CR336 and SR 24, Otter Creek, FL with burial to follow in Orange Hill Cemetery, Williston, FL.
