John Hutson

John Edmond Hutson, age 87, went to be with the Lord Monday, March 15, 2021. He was born March 17, 1933 in Gulf Hammock, Florida, to John Truman and Martha Launa Hutson. A lifelong Gator football fan, he was the driving force behind restarting the football program as a student at the Chiefland High School and is a member of the schools Hall of Fame. He proudly served in the Korean War as a United States Marine. Following the war, he married Norma Richards and became a father to Glen, Louann, Darlene, and Johnny. He worked as a mechanic and truck driver for her father in Miami. He returned to Chiefland and was the owner-operator of a Sinclair fuel station for a short time. He then began work as an auto mechanic, soon rising to be chief mechanic at the White Ford Company. He started the auto mechanics program at Chiefland High and coached football for the school. During his tenure he acquired a bachelor's degree through courses at the University of Florida and Florida Southern. He later married Betty Jo Stevens, whose daughter Melissa cared for him in his later years. Retiring from teaching, he raised beef cattle, grew pecans, and baled hay on his farm. John Ed is survived by his children Glen Gorday, Louann Gentry, Darlene Neudecker, and John Richards Hutson, his siblings Claire Barnes, Juanita Parker, and Harry Hutson, and his many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
