Martin Young

Martin "Marty" Henry Young (age 83) passed away on Friday March 5, 2021 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida from complications related to congestive heart failure. Martin moved to the area in 1989 with his wife Rose and his sons Eric and Austin. Martin was born on November 13, 1937 in Jersey City, New Jersey. His parents names were Sarah Babst and Benjamin Yankowitz. He lost his mother when he was just a baby, and his father unable to take care of him, entrusted young Martin to the care of his aunt and uncle Ida and Nat Rubenstein. They raised Martin as one of their own. As a young man, Marty had many interests including music, fishing, travel, and sports. He made friends wherever he went. He appreciated and respected different cultures, foods, languages, and music. As a professional, Martin was a dedicated teacher and mentor for 32 years for the New York City Board of Education, where he taught exceptional students, and handled crisis intervention with emotionally disabled individuals. In 1989, Marty was granted the opportunity for early retirement, which he took, and moved his family to a farm Williston, Florida. On his farm, Marty spent his retirement, and the rest of his days enjoying a simple and uncomplicated life of fresh air, farm animals, and growing crops and flowers. As a husband and father, Marty was loyal, loving, and supportive. He instilled in his sons a the importance of education, and independence. However, he was always interested in what his sons were doing and were interested in. As a husband Marty was loving, and supportive. He and his wife Rose were inseparable. Together they have hosted many a dinner out on the farm, enjoying the various vegetables and produce Marty grew in his field. Martin is survived by his wife Rose, sons Eric and Austin Perez, his brother Allen, sister-in-law Carole, his sister Elaine, brother-in-law Jerry, and his nephews Adam, Jared, Noah, Sam, and Daniel. He is also survived by the countless friends and acquaintances he shared time and a meal with at his table. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 8, 2021 at 2PM at the Knauff Funeral Home Chapel in Williston, FL. The family will receive friends at 1:30 PM.
