Kenneth Cross

Kenneth C. Cross, Jr., 90, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2020 at Baptist Medical Center South in Jacksonville. He was born in Bradenton, Florida on April 12, 1930. He met his lovely wife of nearly 67 years, Daphine Etheredge, during their years at Stetson University in Deland, Florida. He graduated with a law degree, and went on to practice law before spending his professional career as a Trust Officer in Clearwater. He retired in 1986 to Chiefland, and never looked back. They built their dream home, with lots of room for children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. One highlight among the family were the hot dog "weenie roasts" for which Ken gathered wood and palmetto fronds using his Model A truck, and he supervised the fire and all the cooking. But his true loves in life revolved around family, boating, fishing, Model A Fords, gardening, and perhaps most of all, his church and his Christian faith. He is also known by many as one who can tell a good story or two. And, when not sure where he was, you could usually find him in the barn where he loved to "tinker" for many, many hours. He was an educated true Florida Cracker and a gentleman. Ken is survived by his loving wife, Daphine: two daughters, Deborah (Scott) and Cynthia (Nick); four grandchildren, Kevin, Eric, Greg and Alyssa; and two great grandchildren, Landon and Taylor. Ken also leaves behind many loving relatives, including sister Barbara, and many friends. Due to the recent circumstances facing our society, a memorial service to celebrate the life of Ken will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements are by Knauff Funeral Home in Chiefland, Florida.
