Lena Bittick

Lena Corine Rogers Bittick, 93, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at the Haven Hospice Care Center in Chiefland, Florida. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2020 at Monroe County Memorial Chapel with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Forsyth City Cemetery. Services will be conducted by Rev. Malcolm Cole Davis. Mrs. Bittick, born to the late Charles Ervin and Lena Evitt Rogers on October 31, 1926 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, was a longtime resident of Forsyth after being reared in LaFayette, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Nixon Bittick, her brother, Charles Evitt Rogers, her sister, Betty Rogers Shields and her nephew, Charles Ervin Rogers, III. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Karen Shields Holbrook (Michael), Keith Alan Rogers (Lena), Sandra Shields Bennett, Thomas Wesley Shields (Debbie) and Lisa Rogers Gumby (Michael), her great nieces and nephews, Christopher Holbrook, Adam Holbrook (Laurel), Carl Rogers, Emma Rogers, Matthew Shields, Lena Shields Hosford (Malcolm), Eleanor Boyd, Robert Bennett and Ryan Bennett, and five great great nieces and nephews, Brynna Holbrook, Russell Holbrook, Graham Holbrook, Lynlee Hosford and Lincoln Hosford. Mrs. Bittick graduated from LaFayette High School and attended Bessie Tift College. She was employed by Atlanta Gas Light Company for 35 years, rising to Branch Manager in Forsyth, the first woman to hold such a position within the company. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Forsyth and she enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, crafts and her wonderful bridge club ladies. She was also an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in her name to Georgia Sheriffs Youth Homes, 3000 Highway 42 North, McDonough, GA 30253.
