Dorothy "Ms. Dottie" McKenzie

With hearts full of love and gratitude, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Dorothy (Dottie) Naomi McKenzie, who left this world peacefully on Saturday, November 15th, 2025 at the age of 89.

Dottie was a women of grace, strength, and boundless compassion. She was born in Washington D.C. and moved to Florida in the 1960's. She carried with her a spirit that lit up every room she entered. She devoted her life to her family, raising her children with unwavering love, gentle wisdom, and a quite courage that inspired all who knew her. Her life was also dedicated to her business the “BAR” and her “LOYAL CUSTOMERS”. She loved Friday and Saturday nights with the bands and everyone dancing the night away!

Her hands were rarely still – whether she was taking inventory, ordering supplies, shopping, counting her money from the previous business day, preparing a warm meal, tending to her plants or crafting something beautiful for those she loved. Her laughter was a melody that could ease the heaviest heart and her words had a way of making you feel seen, heard, and cherished. Dottie helped and gave excellent advice to anyone that was lost and needed someone to listen, which helped them get their life back on the right track and become very successful. Dottie was also very strong minded and very willful in everything she did in her life.

Beyond her role as a devoted mother, Dottie was a loyal friend, a guiding light in her community, and a source of comfort to anyone in need. She taught us the value of kindness, the strength in forgiveness, and the joy of simple moments.

She is survived by her daughter Dora Swartz and her son Robert (Robby) McKenzie, grandson Michael Hernandez, granddaughter Kristi McKenzie, great-grandson's Michael Hernandez, Manzo Hernandez, and Jace Weber. All will carry her love forward in their hearts. She is reunited in eternal peace with her mother Frances, father Harry, sister Audrey, and brother Eugene (Gene), her many aunts and uncles, friends, her beloved dogs Missy, Dixie, and most importantly her daughter Rita.

A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, December 7th, 2025 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at 399 N. Hathaway Ave, Bronson, FL 32621, where her bar used to be located, now Marathon and Hardees. We will gather to honor her memory, share stories, and remember the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.

Though she is no longer with us in body, her love will forever be the thread that binds our family together.
