James "Jimmy" Beverly

Obituary

James “Jimmy” Luther Beverly, 87, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 5, 2025, with his loving wife by his side. Born on February 18, 1938, Jimmy lived a life defined by quiet strength, hard work, and steadfast love.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Luther Beverly and Anna Lee Beverly; his sisters, Virginia Long and Annie Phifer; his Son David Lee Mass; and his brother-in-law, Raiford Phifer. He is survived by his devoted wife, Charlotte Ann (Russ) Beverly; his sister Ruby Gillette; his children, James Luther Beverly (wife Manuela), Robert Lewis Beverly, Rose Marie Hatley (husband Billy), Annie Louise Beverly, and Daniel Wayne Beverly (wife Alicia); his niece, Linda Diane Glisson (husband David), whom he raised and loved as a daughter; his grandchildren, Cathy, Matthew, Stacy, James, Aydan, Isabella, Sith, and Zari; his great-grandchildren, Madison and Maariah; and many other great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who held a special place in his heart.

Jimmy proudly served his country in the United States Army. A dairyman by trade and a man of his word, he found purpose in honest work and joy in life's simple rhythms. He could always find a way to get things done — like the time he bought a horse without a trailer and, undeterred, loaded it into the back seat of his car.

He believed in doing things right, loving his family deeply, and finding humor wherever he could. A man of simple tastes, Jimmy never met a day's work he couldn't tackle—or a meal he wouldn't finish. Including that time he was convinced his salsa tasted like soap, despite explanations about it being cilantro. He polished off every last bite, just to be sure.

He will be remembered for his devotion to family, his unwavering work ethic, and his quiet, creative resilience that made every obstacle seem small.

Forever loved, forever remembered.

Family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate his life on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Weems & Sons Funeral Home, 715 W. Park Avenue, Chiefland, Florida 32626.

Following the service, all are invited to join the family for a celebration of Jimmy's life at his son's home. Location details will be shared at the service.

Hard to put into words how much of an impact uncle jimmy had on my life . Although I was his niece, he raised me a majority of my childhood and treated me like his own daughter. He taught me so much about life such as hard work and dedication pays off, you just have to give it 100%. He was always so patient and understanding and one of the most generous people I’d ever known. Although we miss him like crazy down here, I know he’s not suffering any longer and he’s with our lord and savior and he got to reunite with his beloved parents again . You can now rest in heaven uncle jimmy. I love you
