Larry Durden

Mr. Larry James "Jimmy" Durden, Jr. passed away at Shands Medical Center on August 30th, 2018. He was 54. Born in Gainesville, he was a lifetime resident of Bronson. He was a member of the Gulf Hammock Church of God. He was a flagman at Bubba Speedway in Ocala, and also a flagman for Bronson Racetrack. He was a softball coach for Bronson High School and Bronson Youth League. He coached the Tri-County All-Stars. He was Fire Chief for the Gulf Hammock Fire Department and he was past director of Bronson Youth League. His hobby was racing, but his top priority was always his family - "Living for Popa time". Survivors are his mother Barbara Joyce Durden; two sons, Aaron James and wife Christina Durden, Kyle James and wife Emma Durden; one daughter, Ashley and husband Justin Hobbs; two sisters, Linda Darlene Durden, Wanda Kaye and husband Earnest Johnson; seven grandchildren, Emily, Allie, Briley, Bryson, Aaron, Jaxtyn, & Arthur. He was pre-deceased by his father, Larry James Durden, Sr., and sister, Dena Marie Lambert. Funeral services were held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 4th, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Bronson with Pastor Earnest E. Johnson officiating. Burial followed at the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Archer, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that memorials be given to the Softball Scholarship Fund. Contact: Wanda, 352-339-0350.
