Nena Harris

Nena Esther Harris, 100 years young, of Longwood, Florida passed away on June 3, 2018 in Longwood, Florida. She was one of seven children born to Nena and Edward Wadley in Cedar Key, Florida on June 2, 1918. Her father was a commercial fisherman and she loved challenging her four brothers and 2 sisters. She was the consummate tomboy who said her longevity is due to doing everything her four brothers did. She was married three times. The last, married to Lonnie L. Harris who passed away in 2004. She graduated from Cedar Key School and went on to work in the fiber factory in Cedar Key. She left Cedar Key and worked in the Tampa area at MacDill Air Force Base. Later she worked as a bank teller in Orlando. She returned to Cedar Key in 1979 and worked for a period as a receptionist at Pelican Realty. There she was well known for her expertise on the history of Cedar Key and would tell many stories of growing up there. She was a friend to all and an inspiration to many who knew her. Following a hip replacement, she moved to Hayesville, North Carolina to be near her daughter. In July, 2015 Nena moved to Longwood, Florida living with her son and daughter-in-law. She loved gardening, cooking, canning vegetables and growing roses. Nena was a dedicated and valued member of the United Methodist Church of Cedar Key and the Cedar Key Womans Club for many years. She is survived by sons Johnny E. Baylor and Bruce W. Findley. Her daughter Barbara A. Wittmer passed away in 2016. Nena has six grand-children, eight great grand-children and one great-great grand-child. Visitation will be held at the United Methodist Church in Cedar Key, 6050 D Street on Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 10:00-11:00 AM, with service starting at 11:00 AM with Rev. Susie Horner and Rev. Barry Andrews officiating. Burial to follow at the Cedar Key Cemetery. Knauff Funeral Home in Chiefland, Florida will be in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the United Methodist Church in Cedar Key and/or Hospice. SERVICES
