John Pope

John Wesley Pope of Longwood, FL, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the South Seminole Hospital in Longwood, FL. He was 77. He was born to Lester and Gussie Pope on August 2, 1940 in Trenton, FL. John was baptized at the Joppa Baptist Church in Trenton at age 12. He grew up in Chiefland, FL and graduated from Chiefland High School. In 1958 John joined the Army where he became a paratrooper of the 101st Airborne the "Screaming Eagles", and retired in 1984. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his grandbabies. John is predeceased by his parents, his sister Kathleen Pope McElroy, and brother J W Pope. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Dian Kay Pope, his daughters Sonia (Matt) Pope-Day, and Heather (Dave) Joyce, sisters Nellie Simpson, Mildred Watson, Clyda Mae Hilliard and Marcel Coyer, brother Alfred Pope and grandbabies Abbey, Hannah and Natalie. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018 at the Knauff Funeral Home in Chiefland, FL from 4:00-6:00 PM. Funeral service will be Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the Joppa Baptist Church in Trenton, FL with Rev. Robin Thomas officiating. Interment to follow at Joppa Cemetery. SERVICES
