Marty Wimberly

Marty Richard Wimberly of Chiefland, Florida, age 72, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 3rd, 2018, surrounded by his loved ones. Marty was born on October 30th, 1945 to Samuel Ellis and Allie Mae (Cannon) Wimberly in Jacksonville, Florida. After graduating from Chiefland High School, Marty enlisted in the United States Army and served for two years active duty, traveling overseas to Korea, he received a medal for good conduct, and then served another seven years in the Reserves. Marty met his future wife in Chiefland, Florida, after a mutual friend suggested the two meet and go on a double date. On February 1st, 1975, he married Katie Jane Stalvey. They had three children to whom they devoted their time and livelihood. Marty enjoyed spending time with his immediate and extended families and friends. When he was not on the road working shut-downs for Florida Power or hauling logs for various timber/logging companies, he could be found outdoors, partaking in his favorite hobbies: hunting and fishing. He also hand-crafted knives and rebuilt various types of machines, he had a talented and creative spirit. He loved to have long conversations with friends and relatives and he had a wonderful laugh. Marty was a man of strong faith, he was a faithful member of Concord Baptist Church in Chiefland for over 25 years. He wanted people to see the grace of God through him. Marty was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lula Mae Wimberly Dortch. He is survived by his spouse, Katie Wimberly; his three children: Ellis Wimberly, Kellie Ward, and Krystle Skelly and two grandchildren: Elias and Titus Wimberly. He is also survived by two sisters, Margaret W. Hiers of Chiefland, FL, Charlotte Hancock of Bostwick, FL, a brother, Sam Wimberly of Palatka, FL and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Marty was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be missed by many, especially by his family. A service will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018, 11:00 AM at the Concord Baptist Church, Chiefland, FL with Rev. Jamie Brock officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.
