John Rogers Jr

John Woodall Rogers, Jr., passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018, at Haven Hospice in Gainesville, Florida, after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimers. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida, on July 7, 1932, to his parents John W. Rogers, Sr. and Eleta Williams Rogers. He earned a B. A. in History and Sociology from Stetson University, a B.D. in Theology from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and an M.Ed. in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Georgia. John began his lifes work as a pastor of churches located in North Georgia. He then moved into counseling by assisting individuals with drug and alcohol addictions and those struggling with mental health issues before becoming an administrator and executive director of addictions and mental health service agencies, primarily in the Hillsborough County (Tampa), Florida, area. Additionally, John served as a member on several volunteer boards of directors and task forces for numerous local and state alcohol and drug abuse associations and mental health agencies. He retired in 1998 and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends as well as wood working, fishing, traveling and reading Civil War history. John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kay Parnell Rogers, and their daughter, Donna Kay Brown (Jim). He is predeceased by 10 days by their son, David Woodall Rogers (Pam). Additionally, John is survived by 7 grandchildren, a brother, sister, uncle and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Bronson, Florida, on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. A visitation is planned for friends and family prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the care of Knauff Funeral Home- Chiefland, FL.
