Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Stanley Adams Bair, 82, of Cedar Key, Florida. She passed away peacefully on October 9th at her home, surrounded by family.
Stanley was born on June 5, 1943, in Rapid City, South Dakota. Her father, Colonel Carl Hinkle, served in the Air Force, and the family lived in many places across the United States and Europe during her childhood.
In her early twenties, Stanley moved to East Point, Georgia, where she and her first husband soon started a family. A loving and devoted mother, Stanley's life revolved around her children, Bud and Shields. She encouraged them to dream big, work hard, and find joy in everyday moments. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and good food. She loved music, gardening, cooking Sunday dinners, and hosting holidays surrounded by loved ones.
In the early 1970s, Stanley discovered a passion for tennis and quickly excelled. She began teaching lessons on the court she had built on the family farm in Canton, Georgia, and later opened a tennis shop—Match Point Ltd.—with her best friend, Anabell Aderhold. A natural competitor and strong-willed, Stanley thrived on any challenge, whether at the bridge table with friends or racing through the daily crossword.
Stanley met the love of her life, Andy Bair, at Bair's Ski Shop in Atlanta. Within a few years, they married and later opened their own business, Andy's Pool Service. In 1994, their shared spirit of adventure led them to the Bahamas, where they built and operated Bair's Lodge, a premier bonefishing destination on South Andros Island. After nine wonderful years, they made the difficult decision to sell the lodge and return to Florida as Stanley faced a battle with cancer.
In 2004, they purchased the Island Hotel and Restaurant in Cedar Key, where they built yet another welcoming home and community.
Stanley is survived by her husband of 44 years, Andy Bair; her children, Joseph (Bud) Adams Jr. (Laurie) and Shields Plasencia; her stepdaughter, Charlotte Bair; her grandchildren, Christie Lee Yunker (Michael), Joseph (Trey) Adams III, and Elizabeth (Ellie) Plasencia; her brother, Christopher (Chris) Hinkle (Kay); and her sister, Lindsay Ward (Larry). She was preceded in death by her parents, Colonel Carl and Shirley Hinkle.
A celebration of Stanley's life will be held on November 10th from 5–8 p.m. in the Island Hotel Courtyard. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend. Please bring a potluck dish and wear denim in honor of Stanley's favorite attire.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made below to a charity of your choice from the Cedar Key Chamber of Commerce's nonprofit directory.
