Obituary

Virginia Louise Hardy, 94, passed away peacefully at her home in Morriston, FL, on September 17, 2025. Born in Cedar Rapids, NE, Virginia was the fifth of eight children to John and Bernice Wzorek. She often fondly recalled her early years on the family farm, proudly identifying as a "farmgirl" well into her 90s.

After graduating from South High in Omaha, NE, Virginia began her career at Mutual of Omaha along with her beloved cousin and lifelong friend, Evelyn. The two shared an apartment as well as many laughs and adventures. Her first marriage to Don Dixon (deceased) produced three daughters, Linda, Lori and Deena. Later, she married William M. Hardy, U.S.A.F., with whom she shared forty years of marriage and two more children, James and Janet.

As an Air Force wife, Virginia embraced travel, living in Louisiana, the Panama Canal Zone, O'Fallon, IL, and finally Panama City, FL, where she resided for 30 years. She was a dedicated employee at Sears, retiring after 15 years of service from the credit department.

In her retirement, Virginia enjoyed a variety of activities, including her Sears Retirement Club, the African Violet Society, and AARP. She also loved traveling before moving back to Nebraska to be closer to family. In Nebraska, she was an active member of a Polka dance group, following the Leo Lonne Orchestra to many events, particularly enjoying her dancing adventures at the Starlite Lounge in Lincoln, NE. Her final three years were spent back in Florida, which she described as "a dream come true" to escape the ice, snow, and cold once more.

As a wife and homemaker, Virginia took great pride in both cooking meals for her family and her extensive recipe collection. She was a talented, self taught and accomplished seamstress. Lawn care and gardening were also favorite pastimes she enjoyed, believing no leaf should linger long on her yard nor blades of grass be allowed to grow above two inches. In her most recent years, she cherished sitting on her back porch, visiting with neighbors and family.

Virginia is survived by four children, having been preceded in death by son, James. She had eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. The family extends their gratitude to all who enriched her life in her final years through visits, phone calls, cards, letters, and prayers.

Arrangements are entrusted to Weems & Sons Funeral Homes, 512 E Noble Avenue, Williston, FL, 32696
