Obituary

Walter "Walt" Sakowski, 79, of New Smyrna Beach, FL, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 11, 2025.


Walt moved to Florida from Philly many years ago, settling in New Smyrna Beach where he spent the last 12 years of his life. He was a painter and handyman who could fix just about anything. He loved fishing, telling jokes, vinyl records, and the occasional Miller.


He is survived by his daughter, Sue (Norm) Staley, his son Brout (Teresa) Sakowski, grandchildren Heather, Norman and Dylan and one great-grandson Mason. He is survived by his siblings Stanley "Kutz" (Helen) Sakowski, Sandra Sakowski and Tina (Fran) Zane, numerous nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends.


He was loved by his family and will be greatly missed.


In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make donation to the St. Jude Children's Hospital.


Arrangements are entrusted to Weems & Sons Funeral Homes, 715 West Park Avenue Chiefland, Florida 32626.

Bro, I will miss your awesome sense of humor and laugh. When you laughed, EVERYONE laughed! Sometimes they didn’t even know why they were laughing, you were that infectious. In your mind, you had a joke a day and you’d tell it flawlessly. I remember when you came to Franny’s party many years ago, you had all the guests doubled over and in tears with your joke telling and laugh. They still talk about it. So many good memories over a lifetime. I’ll miss you bro and will always think of you with love. Until we meet again….your “Lil Sis” as you so lovingly called me.
