Obituary
Manuel Casas, 86, of Bronson, Florida, unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 due to injuries sustained in a car accident.
Manuel was born in Key West, Florida, on January 16, 1939. He was a graduate of Key West High School where he excelled on the baseball field earning many awards and accolades. After high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Corporal and earning the Good Conduct Medal, Rifle Expert and Pistol Expert awards.
Manuel is preceded in death by his parents Manuel and Elizabeth Casas and his two sisters Davie Casas and Zulema Casas. He is survived by his son Thomas Casas, daughter Deborah Dupree (Greg), niece Teresa Montgomery (Ralph), niece Elizabeth Ann Palmeri, nephew Dave Gonzales (Elizabeth), nephew John Hood, and many great nieces and nephews.
After exiting the military, he worked as a delivery driver for a beverage company traveling the roads of the Florida Keys every day. Manuel then used his outstanding carpentry skills at Tommy Waters Custom Homes, and at Precon Corporation where he worked for 15 years leading up to his retirement. His commitment to quality work and his strong work ethic earned him the respect of colleagues and clients.
Manuel loved the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, golf were hobbies, but baseball was his passion. He followed the New York Yankees faithfully.
As stated by a close friend, Manuel was “a great guy and a great resource for all things, Conch.” Manuel's presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, including his dear friend Mary McDaniel.
A Memorial will be held on August 29, 2025 with visitation at 1:30 pm followed by service at 2:00 pm at Weems & Sons Funeral Homes, 512 East Noble Avenue, Williston, Florida 32696 with Pastor Ralph Estevez presiding. Interment will be at Rosemary Hill Cemetery in Bronson, FL at a later date.
An additional service will be held in Key West, Florida at a later date, to be announced in the Key West Citizen.
