Mary Walkup

Mary Elizabeth Harrison Walkup of McIntosh, FL passed away peacefully on March 2, 2015 with her family by her side. Born March 17, 1920 to John Kirkland and Callie Carter Harrison, she was the oldest of three children. She grew up on a farm near Williston, FL and attended Florida State College for Women in Tallahassee. On August 1, 1943 she married Edwin Fenby Walkup. After his service as a B17 pilot stationed in England during WWII they made their home in McIntosh. She was active in civic affairs, in her childrens schools, and in entertaining friends of all ages. She and her husband enjoyed being with their family and friends at their summer lake house, Gator football games, bird hunting, bridge, their yard and flowers, and traveling. She was a devoted wife to her husband and gave her children unconditional love. Mary Liz is survived by her daughter Helen Cairns and her husband, Bob, and by her son Edwin and his wife, Celeste; by her grandchildren Becky Rutland, Joseph Rutland, Billy Walkup and his wife, Michelle, and John Wilson; and by her great-granddaughter Reagan Walkup. Mary Liz will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend who was full of energy and spunk, was quick witted and well informed. She was an amazing woman who will be missed by those whose lives she touched. Those numbers are many and cover a broad spectrum of ages. She will always be thought of as having a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. A celebration of Mary Lizs life will be held at 2:00 on Friday, March 6th at Community Presbyterian Church, 20098 Highway 441 North, McIntosh, FL.
