Dick Garner

Dick Garner of Bronson, Florida passed away in his sleep on January 24, 2015 at the age of 93. He is preceded in death by his brothers Josh Garner, Herbert Garner and Tom Garner and his sisters Marie Touchton and Geraldine Dennison and one Granddaughter Maribel Santiago. Mr. Garner was the first born son of Charles Albert Garner and Nannie Ray Brock Garner. Dick Papa Garner is survived by 4 children Richard Garner, Chelsea Greek, and Jon Garner, all of Bronson; and Stacy Thackrey of Gainesville; 6 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Pa Pa Garner was in the United States Navy as a Chief Commissaryman for 20 years in World War II and the Korean War, retiring in 1962. He was Town Manager for the Town of Bronson from 1969 to 1984, and retired to spend time hunting and camping, fishing and gardening. He last drove his tractor at the age of 91. Papa entered a nursing home for the last year of his life. All are invited to a graveside memorial service at Bronson Rosemary Cemetery on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 3:30 PM. Afterwards, all are invited to meet to talk to the garden at PaPa's garden from 4:00 to 5:30 PM to eat and to celebrate his life and love for his family and love of his garden. Papa's garden was a Town of Bronson landmark where everyone admired his gardening talent and PaPa spent every day of his retired life doing what he loved most --- working in his garden and enjoying and sharing fruits and vegetables with family, friends and neighbors.
