Obituary

Mark Alan DeMates, 62, of Morriston, Florida, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026.

Mark was born in Michigan on January 6, 1964, to James and Patsy DeMates. Growing up, he was a track and football star at North Branch High School, as well as an avid hunter. All his life, he possessed an extraordinary and natural combination of mechanical aptitude and intuitive problem-solving skills - you name it, he could fix it, make it better, or MacGyver it!

Mark moved to Morriston, Florida in 2019, where he loved being outside, spending time in nature and the sun.

Mark was a devoted and loving son, brother, father, and grandfather. He was the friend who would give you the shirt off his back, an ear to vent to, shoulder to cry on, or share a joke to entertain. He was always reciting song lyrics or movie lines.

He is survived by his sister, Cynthia, brother, James, daughters Carissa and Casandra, grandchildren Aiden, Dante, Dimitri, Meisha, and Soren, and beloved pup, Sophie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Steven.

From his family: Until we meet again - Love You More!

Arrangements are entrusted to Weems & Sons Funeral Homes, 512 East Noble Avenue, Williston, Florida 32696.

Mark was a good brother and was the youngest of us three boys. Mark was always a kind and gentle person, despite being very strong. It would have been easy for Mark to be overshadowed by his two older brothers you excelled in athletics. Mark instead forged his own way and broke the shot put and discus records set by his brothers. Mark was a devoted Dad and has two great daughters and I think five grandkids. Mark will be missed by all and hope that he rests in peace, as he assuredly deserves it. Love - Brother James

Mark was my brother and good friend as we grew up together with me and Steve. He was always kind, gentle and very strong. He could have been overshadowed by his older brothers that excelled in football and track, but instead broke the records that they set in high school. In many ways Mark was the best of us and was always willing to help anyone in need.
