Obituary

Billy Joe “B.J.” Anderson, a longtime resident of Florida and proud U.S. Navy veteran, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 23, 2025, in Williston, Florida. He was 92 years old.


B.J. was born on December 2, 1932, in Opp, Alabama to William and Minnie Anderson. He moved with his family to Auburndale, Florida in September 1939, where he would grow up and later serve his country with honor. In September 1951, B.J. joined the United States Navy and served during the Korean Conflict, spending 18 months stationed in Sasebo, Japan. He received an Honorable Discharge in September 1959.


After his military service, B.J. dedicated his career to the citrus industry, working with Adams Packing Association until his retirement in December 1994. In 2017, he and his beloved wife Diane “Dinah” relocated to Williston, Florida, where they enjoyed their later years together.


B.J. was a devoted family man who found his greatest joy in spending time with loved ones. He and Dinah shared over 30 wonderful years together, and he took great pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whether at family gatherings or quiet moments, B.J.'s warmth and love for his family always shone through.


A man of deep faith, B.J. was a member of Family Life Church of God in Archer, Florida. He loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and his heartfelt prayer was for all of his friends and family to know that same saving grace so they might one day be reunited in Heaven.


B.J. is survived by his wife, Diane “Dinah” Anderson; sons, Rick Anderson of Athens, Georgia, and Byron (Nancy) Anderson of Wesley Chapel, Florida; daughter, Angela (Bill) Flora of Williston, Florida; grandchildren, Ethan, Abby, Lyla, Finn, Melissa (Mike), Jeffrey (Leslie), and Jessica; and great-grandchildren, Elijah and Skylar.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven Hospice in honor of B.J., whose legacy of faith, service, and family will be remembered with love.


Arrangements are entrusted to Weems & Sons Funeral Homes, 512 East Noble Avenue Williston, Florida 32696.

Brother BJ was a dear friend and brother in Christ. I had only known him a few years. But in that short time such a love developed within my heart for my brother BJ. I spoke into his ear one Sunday morning, as we hugged one another, that God put into my heart such a love as David, before he was King of Israel, had for Jonathan, King Saul's son. I will truly miss seeing him but I look forward to finding him in Paradise just as soon as I finish telling Jesus how much I longed to see Him and tell Him how I love Him.

I loved Mr. BJ, he was so special to me. He loved people and always wanted to encourage everyone to keep running the race and winning souls for Jesus. I'm so thankful that I was able to stop by for a short visit on my way out of town in May. We had a very sweet and meaningful visit.

What an incredible man! I first met Mr. B.J. at church and we immediately developed a close spiritual bond. I will forever remember the morning at church I was being prayed for at the altar over a health condition. As I began to return to my seat, Mr. B.J. simply said "I need to hug you!". In that moment Father orchestrated a powerful exchange of love, a healing kind of love, that pierced my inner man. We never exchanged words, but he was definitely anointed to minister to me in the moment. In the exchange of a wordless hug (not unlike a father embracing a son) I received more than a thousand sermons could have preached. Love you, Mr. B.J.! See ya when I get home! "The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God.
