Obituary

William “Bill” Robert Schossler, of Cedar Key, Florida, passed away on June 20, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on January 7, 1947, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Norma White Schossler and William Sylvester Schossler, Bill was the eldest of three siblings, alongside his sister Linda and brother Charlie.

Bill spent his childhood enjoying outdoor adventures, including roller skating, backyard camping, and visiting Fort Clinch. Summers on his Uncle Luther White’s farm and family gatherings at Big Mama’s house were cherished traditions that instilled in him a deep appreciation for family.

A graduate of Bronson High School in 1965, Bill excelled in athletics as a football and basketball player and an all-state track star. He was also active in the Future Farmers of America and served as Senior Class President. From 1966 to 1968, Bill honorably served as a combat Marine in Vietnam during the TET Offensive.

Bill married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Brock, and later earned a degree in Criminal Justice in 1978. His career began at Lancaster Youth Development Center in Trenton and evolved into leadership roles within the Florida Department of Corrections. As Superintendent of Alyce D. McPherson School in Ocala, he led the school to become the first juvenile justice school in Florida accredited by the Council on Accreditation from the American Correctional Association.

In 1988, Bill founded The Henry & Rilla White Foundation in honor of his maternal grandparents. Under his leadership as CEO, the foundation grew to provide comprehensive services for youth and families across Florida. His legacy continues through the foundation today under the leadership of Robbie Durrance, his nephew.

Bill is survived by his son Stewart (Judy) Schossler; granddaughters Sarah and Jacqueline Schossler, Jeni Rudin, and Kim Rudin; his first wife Evelyn Hudson; his wife Patsy; stepchildren Brody (Aimee) Harris and Jaret Holmes; and step-grandchildren Lily, Zoe, and Palmer Harris.

In retirement, Bill and Patsy made Cedar Key their home, where they enjoyed time on the water and at “The Ranch”, a beloved property steeped in family history. Bill’s dedication to creating a welcoming space for friends and family will be fondly remembered.

In accordance with Bill’s wishes, no formal service will be held. Donations in his memory may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project at www.woundedwarriersproject.com.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Weems & Sons Funeral Homes.
