Obituary
In Loving Memory of John Michael Langley
John Michael Langley of Hollywood, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home in Cedar Key on June 24, 2026, just days before his 65th birthday. He was born on June 29, 1961, in Hollywood, Florida, to Samuel D. Langley and Betty Lax-Langley
John was the devoted husband of Gay Thompson-Langley, the love of his life. Together they built a family that meant everything to him. He was the proud father of John Michael Langley II, Ryan Thomas Langley(Deena), and David Ellzey(Angela), and an even prouder grandfather to Jocylin, Grace, Leo, James, Grey, and Arden. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Coco, who was never far from his side.
John is survived by his brother, Ray Langley (Bobbi), along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
John’s greatest joys in life were his love of the sea and his family. Whether gathered on the porch sharing stories, enjoying a home-cooked meal, or spending time together on the water, those moments were what he treasured most. He loved being on his boat, fishing whenever he had the chance, and could often be found working on his boat with pride and dedication. He was also a master behind the grill, bringing family and friends together over meals filled with laughter and love.
Known as a true jack of all trades, John could fix just about anything. From construction projects to home repairs and maintenance, he never shied away from a challenge. If he didn’t know how to do something, he simply figured it out. His determination, resourcefulness, and strong work ethic inspired everyone around him.
To those who first met him, John often appeared tough and rugged. But those fortunate enough to truly know him discovered a gentle giant with a generous heart. He was a protector, a provider, a loving husband, a devoted father, and a proud grandfather. He possessed a wonderful sense of humor, was refreshingly honest, and never believed in sugarcoating the truth. His bluntness was always balanced by his love and loyalty.
John will be remembered for the sayings that made everyone smile: “Tomorrow’s another day,” “Ate up with the dumbass,” and “If you’re going to be dumb, you’ve got to be tough.” Whether enjoying dinner at “the outback” or casting a fishing line into the water, or simply relaxing with loved ones on the porch, he found happiness in life’s simple pleasures.
John leaves behind a legacy of strength, hard work, unwavering love, and unforgettable memories. His family was his greatest accomplishment, and the pride he felt for his sons and grandchildren was evident every single day.
Though he is deeply missed, John’s love, wisdom, laughter, and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
“Tomorrow’s another day.”
A Celebration of Life for John will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements are entrusted to Weems & Sons Funeral Home of Chiefland.
