Geoffrey, losing you has been incredibly difficult. Years ago, our paths drifted apart when you moved to Florida, and unfortunately we lost touch over time. Even though distance and life kept us apart, you were still family, and your passing has deeply affected me. It is heartbreaking to know that your life was cut short in such a tragic accident. I often find myself thinking about the memories we shared before our paths went separate ways. Your passing is a reminder of how precious and fragile life truly is. Rest in peace. Hi, my American cousin Jef, Do you remember? Our kids had a hard time pronouncing your name, “Geoffrey,” so they called you “Jef.” We didn’t keep in touch much after you moved to Florida. Flanders was too small—there were no more adventures for you here. We were jealous of you. You were doing what we dreamed of. Still, we kept in touch regularly on WhatsApp. Mostly we had a lot of fun talking about the differences between America and Europe. Whenever I think back to our New Year's Eve celebrations, family gatherings, the countless hours we spent playing together in your basementon your sega playstation, or the holidays we shared, I always remember your incredible energy, your determination, and the way you embraced life. You always knew what you wanted, and you pursued it with passion. Looking back now, it feels as though Belgium was simply too small to contain your dreams and your adventurous spirit. Every time I see someone wearing a metal bracelet—like Remco did last week during the Tour de France—I immediately think of you.
