Rufus Lawrence Smith, a resident of Otter Creek, Florida passed away on July 25, 2026 in Trenton. He was 98 years old. Rufus was born February 18, 1928 in Levyville, Florida to parents John Lawrence and Evelyn Lena Smith.
A graveside service to honor Mr. Smith’s life will be held at the Levyville Cemetery on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at 10:00am.

I don't have any pictures because I was very young. But Rufus is my grandfather, and I didn't see him as much as I wanted to. The memory that comes to mind every time I think of him is me as a little kid running around his woodworking shop playing with the scrap wood like it's blocks watching him build whatever he was building. The smell of cedar always in the air it was my favorite place to be. Those memories shaped my love of woodworking and building things with my hands. Any time I build anything I always think back to those times and how much I love the smell of cedar now I love Papa Ru, and I will always carry you with me.
