December 31, 1945 - October 13, 2026
Obituary
Kay Graham Drummond passed away peacefully on October 13, 2026, following a courageous 16-year journey with cerebral amyloid angiopathy.
Born on December 31, 1945, to Stancil and Blanche Graham, Kay was their only child. She grew up in Chiefland, Florida where she attended school and graduated in 1963 as salutatorian of her class.
Kay continued her education at Florida State University, studying early-childhood development and becoming a member of Delta Gamma sorority. During her college years, she was also a member of the university’s modeling board and participated in numerous pageants. Among her honors were being named Florida State Cattlemen’s Sweetheart, Miss Sun Flavor and Sweetheart of Delta Chi fraternity.
Following college, Kay returned to her hometown, where she helped establish Chiefland Elementary School’s first kindergarten class. She went on to teach kindergarten for several years, touching the lives of countless young children and beginning what would become a lifelong commitment to children and her community.
In December 1968, Kay married Luther Drummond, beginning a marriage that would span 57 years. Together, they raised their son, Gray, and built a life centered on family, friendship and service to others.
Kay’s love for children extended well beyond the classroom. She organized and coordinated the Kid’s Savings Club program at Drummond Community Bank, helping introduce young people to the importance of saving and financial responsibility.
Her dedication to the community was reflected in her involvement in numerous charitable and civic activities, including fundraising efforts for Haven Hospice. In recognition of her many contributions and years of service, Kay was honored as Chiefland’s Citizen of the Year.
Yet, for all her accomplishments, Kay’s greatest legacy was not measured by the honors she received or the positions she held, but by the lives she touched.
She was a wonderful wife, loving mother and cherished grandmother. Those fortunate enough to know her will remember her kindness, generosity, sense of style, fairness, wonderful sense of humor, and genuine affection for others. She had a special way of making people feel welcome, valued and loved.
Although cerebral amyloid angiopathy gradually took so much from Kay, it could never take away the love she inspired or erase the countless wonderful memories she created throughout her life. Those memories, and the joy she brought to others, will remain with her family and friends forever.
Kay is survived by her husband, Luther Drummond; her son, Gray Drummond, and his wife, Marjorie Drummond; and her two beloved grandchildren, Elle Drummond and Kate Drummond.
Arrangements are entrusted to Weems & Sons Funeral Home of Chiefland.
