Charleen Baumer

Charleen Josephine Baumer, age 80, passed away on April 29, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. She departed peacefully while in the care of Haven Hospice in Chiefland, Florida. Born on April 5, 1945, Charleen lived a life marked by compassion, service, and unwavering faith. From 1972 to 1974, she worked at Levi Strauss & Co. in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Later, from 1979 to 1981, she and her beloved husband, John, served as house parents at the Methodist Children's Home in Little Rock and Magnolia, Arkansas.

In 1987, Charleen taught early morning seminary for the Holt, Michigan Ward, where she shared her love for the gospel with local youth. The following year, she became certified in the state of Michigan as an Apprentice Counselor for Substance Abuse Services, demonstrating her deep desire to support and guide others. In 1989, she earned her Associate's Degree in Arts from Lansing Community College, continuing her dedication to personal growth and education.

Together, Charleen and John served several full-time missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They served in the Argentina Bahía Blanca Mission from June 1989 to December 1990, followed by a mission in the Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic Mission from April 1991 to October 1992, along with later service missions. Charleen also cherished her time serving in the Orlando Temple and held numerous callings throughout her life.

She was a talented upholsterer who found joy and creativity in her craft, always improving the world around her in both small and significant ways.

Charleen was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Ivan Baumer, her son Jay Baumer, and her great-granddaughter Hannah.

She is survived by her children: Sherry, Alex, Paul, Billy, Zarada Pickard, and John Lee; her grandchildren: Allysa, Alexa, Carlie, Tim, William, Mason, Stephanie, AJ, Kierra, Megan, Annie, Cami, Spencer, Jayann, and Robert; and her great-grandchildren: JT, Lauren, Emma, AJ, Lane, Lander, Cooper, Oakley, Truman, Renn, Tristin, Kambria, Brantley, Taylor, Ben, Jackson, Elsie, Aidon, Seamus, Jack, Faith, Gabe, Logan, Rowan, and Rhonan.

Charleen's life of love, faith, and quiet strength leaves behind a legacy that will continue to bless generations.

A viewing will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Weems & Sons Funeral Home. 715 West Park Avenue, Chiefland, Florida 32626

A funeral service will be held at 5:00 PM on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chiefland, Florida. Burial will follow at the Chiefland Cemetery.
