Betty Burks

Betty June Burks, known by many as June, Mamma, Grandma, GG, and affectionately as “The Pie Lady,” passed away peacefully on Sunday April 6, 2025. Born on January 27, 1931, in Albion, Oklahoma, June lived most of her life in Cotton Valley, Louisiana, before retiring to Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Burks as well as her beloved daughter, Julie King. June leaves behind a loving family, including her surviving children: Linda Munson (Tom), Wynona Sullivan (David), and Larry King (Cookie). She is also survived by her grandchildren Crystal Komar (DR), Jamie King, Amy Leppin (Matt), Shawn Munson, Shannon Douglas (James), Jessica Johnston (Seth), David Johnston (Ashley), Kirby King, and Callie Branciforte (Zac), as well as 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. We celebrated most holidays, birthdays, and any other celebration at her home for the last 30 years in Williston, Florida. June will also be deeply missed by her nieces and nephews in Oklahoma and the many friends she made throughout her life.

June dedicated 24 years of her career as a computer operator at Bossier General Hospital, where she touched the lives of countless individuals. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and cherished the community and sisters in Christ she had throughout her life. A gifted crocheter, June was always making something to share with others, especially her signature scrubbies. No visit to her home was complete without leaving with a bag of her creations or a slice of her famous pie. June's home was always open, and she made sure no one ever left hungry. Her kindness, generosity, and warmth will be remembered by all who knew her. Her legacy lives on through her family, her faith, and the many lives she touched with her love and delicious pies.

A funeral service will be held at the Williston Church of Christ at 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 to honor June's life and the profound impact she had on all who were fortunate to know her. Minister Daniel Carswell will officiate. Interment will follow at the Orange Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, they family asks that donations be made to the Williston Church of Christ.
