Obituary

Eric Wilfred Wells, 75, of Chiefland, Florida passed away on March 17, 2025, in Gainesville, FL. Eric was born in Sheffield, England on October 12, 1949, to Eric Wilfred Wells and Kathleen Conway.


He started playing the bass guitar at age 13 and played with various bands during his lifetime, including the "Who's Who?" Band, and even played the same stages as Tina Turner, The Hollies, and The Dave Clark 5. Eric even played at many reputable clubs such as Noah's Ark and The Rock Club, sometimes alongside his good friend Joe Cocker. Eric then worked with Wallace Arnold tour bus company in England. Eric belonged to The Knights Templar in Bournemouth, England. Eric toured with his own Wellsway coach company, from the British Isles to the Mediterranean Sea with his wife at the time Maureen Wells.


He moved from England to Hollywood, Florida in the 1980's and developed his own trucking company: Eagle Star. He also worked for Alliance Dairy as a milk tanker driver. He also formed a solo act called, "Out of the Shadows," in Chiefland, FL. Most recently he was a member of the Smoking Aces. Eric was a free mason and a member of the Brown Masonic lodge # 51.


Eric is survived by his wife, Connie S Wells, his sister, Sandra Tee, his nieces, Karen Wilkes, Donna Wignel, Danielle wright, Marie Roosa, his nephew Michael Tee, and his stepchildren, Chris Hirdle, Mark Hirdle, Julie Barrowman, April Arvidson, and Angela Simmons.

Eric was dearly loved by friends and family and will be missed very much.


Please join us on Monday, April 14, 2025 between 6:00 - 7:00 pm for a memorial service at Weems & Sons Funeral Homes, 715 West Park Ave, Chiefland, FL 32626.

I will miss you dearly, Eric. You were the gentleman of gentleman’s. You were kind, sweet, respectful, and loved everyone. You always supported me, especially with our music, and you were my husband and companion. You loved your coffee and your chocolate chip cookies just as much as you loved your Gretsch White Falcon Bass guitar. Your Dusty misses you very much but he is in good hands with me. Love you Eric, rest in peace.

To my Uncle Eric i love you and miss you loads I have alot of lovely memories when I was little he was so much fun to be with I went on loads of day trips with him the trip that stands out is when he took me to Bridlington and we stopped for dinner and I didn't want a kids meal I wanted big fish and chips i think the fish was a plaice fish I didn't finish it but he just smiled at me and then I use to help get rid of the rubbish on the way home so the coach was ready for the next day. Then I also helped out at a cafe on block street helping out on a Saturday. He also use to play the guitar we had lots of singing he used to play alot of country music like Don Williams and he also loved Smokie Robinson and at that time he had a stupid old English dog we called them deluxe dogs he was brilliant and very fluffy. I also use to love the times he would visit us and my dad and uncle Eric played lots of music from the shadows it was so good to hear them play together and now they are also together rocking in heaven. I miss you loads my little brother I can't just think of a special memory because they are all so precious to me. When I think of Wilfy he reminds me so much of my dad as he has gotten older. I will always miss you lots of love Sandy

Eric Wells is responsible for my becoming a Mason. He got me the petition to join and when I underwent the Master Mason Degree he “raised” me. My wife Chris and I were friends with Eric and Maureen. In later years I would occasionally meet him while shopping at Walmart in Chiefland. I also remember waving to him as he drove the Alliance Dairy tanker by our farm. Eric was proud of his Masonry. They say that Masonry makes a good man better. He was that and more. Alas, my Brother….
