Charles Johnson

On April 1, 2025, Charles Michael (Mike) Johnson lost his long battle here on earth and walked into the arms of Jesus. He was an incredible man of faith and was an amazing example of love to everyone. He never met a stranger, loved to joke and laugh and lived large! He has left a void in our lives that will never be filled. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the First Baptist Church of Bronson at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 am. Brother John Coker and Brother Steve Garnett will officiate.

Mike was born on November 13, 1947 in Newberry, South Carolina, to the late Charles Randolph and Willie Dale Johnson. His family settled in Williston, Florida in 1959 and he attended Williston High School and eventually received his GED while serving in the Army. Mike served in the Army from 1967- 1970, including one tour in Viet Nam in 1968-69. He was a Helicopter Door Gunner and Mechanic. Mike began his Law Enforcement career in 1980 working part-time for the Williston Police Department and Levy County Sheriff's Office. He worked for The Florida Department of Corrections from 1982-1989, as a Correctional Officer, Training Officer and Medical Unit Specialist. In 1989, Mike was hired by Sheriff Ted Glass to be the Chief Deputy in Levy County Sheriff's Office. He loved working with and supporting the deputies, correctional officers and support staff as well as the citizens. He was honored to attend the FBI National Law Enforcement Academy in 2000, 203rd session, in Quantico, Virginia. He earned his Bachelor of Arts- Criminal Justice degree from Adam's University in 2002. Mike retired in 2010 at the rank of Colonel. In his retirement, he was devoted to spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren, hunting, fishing, working in his shop, traveling and helping anywhere he was needed. He worked a great deal at his church,First Baptist Church of Bronson and never missed a chance to tell people how blessed he was and to give the Glory to God. His favorite Bible verse was Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and he shall direct your paths”. NKJV

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Randolph Johnson and Willie Dale Barrow Johnson, his brothers, William Francis (Buddy) Frith, Alfred Douglas Frith, his sisters, Patricia Ilean Wynn and Juanita Frith Fugate.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Jacki Johnson, his brother, James Randolph (Randy) Johnson, his children, Charles M. Johnson, Jr., Marianne M. Penn and Son-in-Law, John Penn, Susan R. Johnson Everett, David T. Allaire, Jr and daughter-in- Law, Tammie Yarbrough Allaire and Otis Randolph Johnson; grandchildren : Darian Everett (John) Henry, C. River Lundy, Bailee Everett, Hannah Lundy Nessmith, Alyssa Lundy, Addison Allaire, Madi Baker Johnson, and Eli Jay Allaire and four great grand children and many nieces and nephews.
