Obituary
With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life well lived, we celebrate the legacy of William Sherwood "Billy" Lovelace II, who passed away on February 14, 2025, at the age of 80. Though he has left this world, his warmth, laughter, and sense of humor will remain with us forever.
Billy was born on January 6, 1945, in Old Town, Florida, to W.S. Lovelace and Velma Green Lovelace. Graduating from Dixie County High School class of 1964 he incredibly achieved 12 years of perfect attendance. Shortly after, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Army in January 1965 and serving honorably until March 1969.
Following his service, Billy was briefly employed at Georgia Pacific in Cross City before managing the Suwannee Gables Standard Service Station alongside his family while also serving as Chief of the Old Town volunteer Fire Department and then working with Knauff Funeral Home later in life. Billy had a special gifthe never met a stranger, only friends he hadnt made yet. He loved sharing stories, his incredible memory a treasure trove of history and humor. His laughter was contagious, and his kindness was boundless.
Billy was a member of the Old Town United Methodist Church, and a proud member of American Legion Post 383. He held his faith, family, and friendships close, always finding joy in the simple moments of life.
Billy is survived by daughter, Claudia Calhoun (John), his beloved sisters: Sherry Ragsdale, Wanda Jones (H.F.), Cecelia Walker, and Janice Dunnam, nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Also leaving behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and countless dear friends. He now joins in eternal rest, his daughter, Susan Lovelace, and son, William S. "Woody" Lovelace.
Billys life was one of love, laughter, and serviceto his family, his country, and his community. While we mourn his passing, we take comfort in knowing that his legacy of kindness and joy will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of Billys life will be held Thursday February 20, 2025 at Old Town United Methodist Church at 3PM with visitation an hour prior. Burial immediately after at Old Town cemetery. Friends and family will gather to share stories, laughter, and memoriesjust as he would have wanted at OTUMC fellowship hall.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Old Town Cemetery Fund, 396 SE Highway 317, Old Town, Florida 32680

My deepest Condolences to the family. I lived in Old Town for 6 years and had the pleasure of sharing many laughs with him. I was blessed to have gotten to know him!! RIP Billy. Praying for comfort for his family that I know will miss him very much.
