Obituary
Agnes Marie Bailey Fugate a lifetime resident of Morriston, Florida went peacefully from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Friday, February 14, 2025.
Marie was born on June 27, 1939 in Zephyrhills, Florida to James Thomas Bailey and Bertie Mills Bailey. She was of the Baptist faith and moved her membership from Leesburg First Baptist to Morriston Baptist Church in 1957. In her later years she attended Rosewood Baptist Church.
Marie attended several schools growing up and ultimately graduated from Williston High School in 1957. That is where she met her future husband and the two married in Folkston, Georgia on July 23, 1960. They built their home and raised their family in the Morriston community.
During her working years, she was first employed by Sears then several other ventures. However, her most loved job was being a rural letter carrier for the Morriston Post Office for 33 years before retiring.
After retiring she took on her most important role as Gangie for her 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was their cheerleader, chauffeur and partner in mischief. She also enjoyed shopping, traveling and most of all driving her car. Marie was involved extensively in the United States Postal Union and served throughout the years in many capacities. She was a state and national delegate, district officer, and PAC chair. She and her husband travelled to numerous state and national conferences.
In the community, she was a member of the local AARP chapter and the Red Hat Society as a Queen.
Marie is survived by and will be deeply missed by her husband of 64 years, Homer Leon Fugate, Jr. Daughters: Lori Fugate Bloom (Richard) and Lanell Fugate Gartin (Donald). Granddaughters: Amanda Bloom Nunes (Jared) and Ashton Bloom Dowling (Turner). Grandsons: Daniel Gartin and Dylan Gartin. Great grandchildren: Grace, Edgar, and Annalee Dowling and Naomi and Asher Nunes.
Services will be at Knauff Funeral Home chapel on Friday, February 21, 2025. Visitation beginning at 10:00am with services at 11:00am. Officiating Keith Stewart and Eric Weitz. Internment at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Morriston, Florida.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Knauff Funeral Home of Williston.

Dear Leon, Lori, Lanell, and family - My mother (Marlene Mills Barrett) and I are so sorry to hear of Marie's passing. I've heard many stories from my mother over the years of how Marie protected and looked out for her as they were growing up. Mom was also grateful that she agreed to serve as Matron of Honor in her wedding to my Father in 1965. I personally knew my cousin Marie (I grew up calling her Aunt Marie) to have a great sense of humor and a nurturing quality that saw her check on her "little cousin" (my mother) on a regular basis as they both got older. She will be greatly missed. May the good Lord bring you and yours peace during this difficult time.

So sorry to hear of Marie's passing. As you know, I've known her my whole life and considered her a part of my family. Heartfelt condolences to all the family. Would have have been at the funeral but had surgery yesterday and couldn't make it..
