Jacqueline Cannon

Jacqueline (Jackie) Layfield Cannon, "Nanny" passed from this life peacefully at Shands Hospital on December 29, 2024 following a sudden illness with family by her side. Nanny was born March 19, 1935, to Albert and Linnie Gay Layfield. Her life was a testament to her faith, love and devotion. She lived her whole life in Levy County and was a Bronson High Alumni. She married her life partner, G.C. Cannon in August 1954 and they shared a lifetime of love and commitment until Papa went home to Jesus in November 2019 after 65 years of marriage. She worked at Central Florida Electric Co-op (REA) for many years and still talked fondly of all those folks who became family through the years. Nanny is a daughter of the King and was a faithful member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings; Vernon and Ronald Layfield, Madge Layfield Jordan and her much loved son-in-law David Gore, Jr. Nanny is survived by her daughters Karen Gore and Judy (Craig) Mikell; her grandsons, Jared (Kyndal) Gore, Jason (Stephanie) Gore, Tyler (Mary) Mikell , Cory (Carly) Mikell and her most precious to her great grands, Brylan, Baylor, Knox and Owen Gore, Sam, Hudson, Beau and Gracie Mikell. Being Nanny to her grands and great grands brought her greatest joys. Her gentleness and love for all along with her steadfast faith in Jesus is the legacy we are blessed with and we will strive to carry on as we learn to navigate life without her here with us. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at the Antioch Cemetery starting at 11:00 AM. Pastors Emanuel Harris and Jamie Brock will officiate the service. The family invites everyone for a visitation at Jackies residence the same afternoon from 3:30 PM-5:30PM. Arrangements are under the care of Knauff Funeral Home of Chiefland.
