Marion Platt

Marion Joyce Miller Platt, known affectionately as "Grandma Darling," passed away peacefully on December 16, 2024, after bravely fighting Stage 4 Pancreatic cancer for the last four years, inspiring all that knew her. Marion was born on May 22, 1941, a historian at heart, she carried the torch of family stories and traditions passed down from her father and his father before him. She was the beloved wife of Garrett Menzo Platt, together, they cherished 56 years, with their song 'Country Roads' now guiding them back to each others hearts, now and forever. In memory of our grandmother, the Matriarch of our family, the Monarch butterflies she now sends serves as a gentle reminder of her enduring presence in our hearts, alongside the yellow butterflies that has honored Garrett the last 9 years. Marion had a knack for finding treasures at yard sales and was always on the lookout for the next great find, loved to travel, scrapbooking, puzzles, an author and a lover of the arts. Marion cherished every moment spent with close friends, family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always reminding them she was everyone's favorite grandma. Showering all of us with boundless affection and wisdom. Her dedication extended beyond her family to her profession as an OR nurse and then Vice President of Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton NY, where she cared for countless patients with the same love and compassion she showed her own family, in 1991 Marion and Garrett moved to Williston, Florida from New York where she retired as a registered nurse consultant and a supervisor of field operations at the Agency for Health Care Administration of Alachua County. Grandma Darling's legacy of love, humor, and resilience will live on in our hearts forever. She leaves behind daughters, Lorri Wentz (Earl), Christina Smith, Kimberly Crunden (William), and stepdaughter, Deborah Hamlin and eight grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren; who adored her and countless memories to cherish. Rest in peace, our dear historian and favorite daughter, sister, aunt, mother, and greatest grandma, our Matriarch; You will be missed more than words can express. Her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A celebration of her life will be held on January 18, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Knauff Funeral Home Chapel, 512 E Noble Ave, Williston, FL, 32696 (352)528-3481. A graveside service will be held at Woodland Cemetery in Delhi, New York at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Knauff Funeral Home Williston.
