Obituary

Wilbur Vance “Buck” Benton

March 26, 2026

Wilbur Vance Benton was born on December 18th, 1936, in Archer Florida. He left this world on Thursday, March 26, 2026. Known to everyone simply as “Buck,” he was a man whose heart was forever tied to the outdoors. If he wasn't in a tree stand at sunrise, you could find him at a favorite fishing hole, easing along a quiet creek, or skimming across the Gulf on his airboat. Nature was his peace, his joy, and his constant companion.

A proud graduate of Williston High School, Class of 1955, Buck shined as a standout basketball and baseball player. His competitive spirit, love of teamwork, and determination stayed with him throughout his life.

For many years, Buck served as the superintendent for Brentwood Company, a role he carried out with dedication and pride. Even after retiring, he continued making his rounds—checking on jobs, offering advice, and keeping an eye on things. Slowing down simply wasn't in his nature. He was also a devoted Florida Gators fan, cheering them on through every season with unwavering enthusiasm.

Buck is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 41 years, Barbara, whom he cherished deeply, and by his son Tony Hall (Timberly). He is survived by his children, David Benton (Debbie), Jennifer Court (Mathew) and Clevey Hall. He leaves behind four grandchildren, Sabrina (Cody), Candace (Tyler), Samantha (Addison) and Zachary. All were a source of immense pride. He also leaves behind five great-grandchildren whom lit up his life, McKenzie, Jack, Charlie, Julie and Harley.

Buck lived fully, loved deeply, and worked hard. His stories, his laughter, and his steady, unwavering spirit will be carried forward by all who knew and loved him.

Arrangements are entrusted to Weems & Sons Funeral Home of Chiefland.

Buck and his late wife Barbara were great friends to my parents, me and my brother. He and my Dad hunted together, and he graciously attended my Dad's funeral last year. My sincere condolences to his family. I'm so sad to write here for this occasion. Deborah Casas Dupree and Greg Dupree, and Thomas Casas
