Tommie Mercer

DUE TO THE CURRENT TROPICAL DISTURBANCE APPROACHING THE STATE OF FLORIDA, THE SERVICE DATE HAS CHANGED. THE SERVICE IS NOW SCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY, AUGUST 18, 2024. Tommie Eugene Mercer was born on February 16, 1947 in Douglas, Georgia to his father Tom Mercer and mother Lois Hall Mercer, both now deceased. His siblings were Ronald Mercer(brother), Annie Porter( sister), and Bonnie Pace(sister), all of whom are also deceased. He was Baptized in Douglas, GA in the Southern Baptist faith. He married to Katrina Ann Quillen Mercer on April 17, 1970 and had four children: Michael Shannon Mercer (deceased), Tommie Eugene Mercer, Jr. (Charlotte Mercer), John Ashley Mercer, and Regina Christine Mercer Boyd (Michael Boyd). He has seven grandchildren and numerous cousins. Tommie graduated from Terry Parker HS in 1966 and preceded to join the Air Force after graduation. He joined during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Thailand. He retired from Jacksonville Electric Authority in 2010 after a double lung transplant. He was blessed to receive lungs that sustained his life for the next fourteen and a half years. They were a true blessing from God and his donor. Tommie, or "Gene" as he was known to friends and family, was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved the outdoors and nature. He loved being with his children and grandchildren, they always made him smile. There are so many cherished memories of him with his family and friends that I will carry in my heart of the wonderful times we had. He will be missed by his family and friends. We will celebrate his new life that will not know any illness but only happiness. We will see him again to all of us who believe. A memorial service for Tommie will be held at Knauff Funeral Home, 715 West Park Ave, Chiefland, FL, on Sunday, August 18th at 2:00 PM, followed by a graveside service at Chiefland Cemetery. Brother Tyler Hill will officiate. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Knauff Funeral Home.
