Can Quillen

Can James Quillen was born on November 23, 1926 in Neon, Kentucky, and passed on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. He is preceded in death by his wife Jaunita Harper Quillen (08/09/2023), his son Ronald Eugene Quillen (02/10/2017), and his son-in-law Tommie E. Mercer (07/14/2024). He is survived by his daughter Katrina Ann Mercer, four grandchildren: Tommie E. Mercer Jr. (Charlotte Mercer) John A. Mercer, Regina C. Boyd (Mike Boyd), Alisha Quillen White (Jamie White), one brother Mack Quillen (Ginger Quillen), eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Can served in the United States Navy as a Mail Carrier during World War II and the Korean War. He would tell us of his many adventures of seeing the world. He retired from Cain & Bultman (Jacksonville) in 1989. He married the love of his life October 1948 and they were married for 74 years. He was of Baptist faith and a member of Pine Grove Church. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also was a member of the Boy Scouts which he enjoyed with his son Ronnie. His final accolades were his achievements of the broken arrow award. He loved planting his garden every year for his wife. He was a loving husband, father , grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He was loved and will be missed. Services will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Knauff Funeral Home, 715 West Park Ave, Chiefland, FL, followed by interment at Chiefland Cemetery. Brother Tyler Hill will officiate the service. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Knauff Funeral Home in Chiefland.
