Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary and Sheila Hathcox, who both left this world on March 27, 2026, in Cedar Key, Florida. Gary and Sheila were married for 57 years. Gary was born on June 6, 1943, to Jesse and Mable Hathcox. Sheila was born on November 25, 1949, to Louie and Margaret Delaney and was their only child.

Gary Hathcox, a proud Vietnam Veteran, dedicated his life to serving others. He retired as a Lieutenant firefighter from Gainesville Fire Rescue, where he was known for his bravery, dedication, and unwavering commitment to his community. Gary had a deep love for the outdoors, finding joy in clamming and fishing along the beautiful shores of Cedar Key. Gary was a multi-generational commercial fisherman.

Sheila Hathcox, a devoted wife, mother, and nana, worked for and retired from the Levy County Clerk of Court. She was known for her kindness, diligence, and the positive impact she had on everyone she met. Sheila shared Gary's love for the outdoors and had a passion for hunting, often spending her time in the serene wilderness of Florida.

Together, Gary and Sheila built a life filled with love, adventure, and cherished memories. They leave behind a legacy of service, love for nature, a deep sense of community, and love for their only daughter and son-in-law, three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Gary and Sheila are survived by their only child, Tracie Hathcox Drummond (Frank). Gary is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Hathcox Dykes.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Mable Hathcox, and his younger sister, Wilma Hathcox Fisher. Sheila was an only child and was preceded in death by her parents, Louie and Margaret Delaney.

Gary and Sheila have three grandchildren: grandson Franklin Wayne Drummond III “Trey” (Chelsea), granddaughter Tristen Drummond (fiancé Matthew Batton), and grandson Gary “Tripp” Drummond. They have five great-grandchildren: Kelbi Grace Williams, Karter Horace Williams, Tuff Vince Feagle, Stetson Wayne Drummond, and Sadie Michelle Drummond. Gary and Sheila leave behind several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family will forever hold their memories close to their hearts. Their lives were a testament to the values of dedication, love, and the beauty of the natural world.

Gary and Sheila will be deeply missed by all who knew them, but their spirits will live on in the hearts of those they touched.

A joint celebration of life will be held to honor their lives and celebrate the love they shared. Details of the service will be announced at a later date.

Arrangements are entrusted to Weems & Sons Funeral Home of Chiefland.
