Mary Rutland

Mary Jane Rutland, a resident of Williston, Florida went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 26th, 2024. She was 85 years old. Mary Jane was born on October 12th, 1938 to Mattie Meeks and Jack L. Meeks, Sr. She was a native of Levy County and spent her childhood in Bronson. Her family moved to Chiefland when she was 16 where she graduated from Chiefland High School in 1956. She attended Florida State University where she met her future husband, Hal Rutland. The couple moved to Williston in 1959 where they started their family. In her early years in Williston, she was a homemaker but later worked as a teachers aide at Joyce M. Bullock Elementary School and then at Kids N Company where she was affectionately known as "Miss Nana" by hundreds of children. She was a faithful member of the First Methodist Church in Williston. Mary Jane is preceded in death by her husband, Hal Rutland, daughter Roseanne Pace and grandson Christopher Pace. She is survived by her son Scott Rutland (Lori), daughter Dana Moxley (Steve), brother Jack Meeks (JoAnn), seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 11:00am at the First Methodist Church in Williston, Florida. Pastors Joe Smith and Barry Andrew will be presiding. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Friends of the Williston Library, P.O. Box 265 Williston, FL 32696. Please note on the memo line of your check "In memory of Mary Jane Rutland".
