Leona Cobb

Leona Owens Cobb, a lifelong resident of Bronson and Williston, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 23, 2024. She was 90 years old. Leona was born on September 7th, 1933 to her parents Charlie and Mamie Owens in Williston, Florida. She is preceded in death by her husband, Elton Cobb, longtime publisher of the Levy County Journal. She is survived by her son, James (Jimmy) Elton Cobb of Bronson. She is also survived by a multitude of nieces and nephews and loving friends. Leona retired from the Levy County School district where she worked at Bronson Elementary School for 26 years as a Title I paraprofessional. While working at BES she passionately helped hundreds of students learn to read, often claiming all students as her own. Leona was also a member of the Bronson First Baptist Church. Leona loved flowers, was an avid arts and crafts hobbyist, and she had a prized doll collection, which numbered in the hundreds. One of her favorite times of the year was during Christmas. She was well known for having the premier decorated home in Bronson with lights and Christmas scenery. She would also tell you that the Lord kept her on this earth to take care of her son Jimmy.
