John Black, III

John Samuel Black III (Johnny) age 76, passed away on April 18, 2024 due to complications of lung cancer. A native of Tampa, he joined the Army at 17 and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He was a crane operator in Tampa for many years, and moved to Chiefland 15+ years ago. He was an avid hunter and life member of NRA. By far, his true love was drag racing! He was a member of NHRA and embraced his many friendships with fellow race car fans. He was honored to be part of Dave White Motorsports and his pit crew back in the 70s. His love of racing carried through his lifetime, and was shared most recently with his Gainesville racing buddies. Johnny was a Baptist and Christian by profession of faith. He will be sorely missed, and memories will remain cherished in our hearts. Johnny is survived by his sisters, Betty Regalado (Fred), Darlene Combs, Toni Cason (Roye), daughter Pamela Joyce Black, longtime companion Angela Hagerman, and many other loving family members and friends. The interment will be held at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell on Friday, May 17, 2024 at 2:00 PM with military honors performed by the Sumter County Honor Guard.
