Obituary
Brenda Sue Heberling, Chiefland, was born July 19, 1956 to Harry Albert Bernstel, Sr. and Mabel Delores Bernstel (Kleinhans) in Lebanon, PA. She was tragically taken from this life on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at her place of home at the age of 67 years. Brenda lived a very accomplished life. She was dedicated to learning and teaching others as she earned a Bachelor of Science from Middle Tennessee State in Animal Science with a minor in Education and a Masters from the University of Florida in Education. She devoted over 50 years with the 4-H Extension office where she spent her time helping children and adults learn about various subjects from shooting sports to marine biology. However, Brendas true love was with horses. Her earlier years she was spent as a jockey on the thoroughbred tracks, to a rider on the Intercollegiate Horse Show team at Middle Tennessee State. She then shifted her passion with discovery of Welsh Ponies and Cobs, she and her sister found Bs Welsh Ponies. She was a well-known pony breeder and a face of The Welsh Pony and Cob Society of America. She always saw the good in others and was always willing to give the shirt off her back to help those in need. She is preceded in death by her father Harry Albert Bernstel, Sr., her mother Mabel Delores Kleinhans and sister-in-law Diane Bernstel. She is survived by her only daughter Teri Heberling of Florida, her three sisters Carol Sue Paxton and Terry Sr. of Texas; Vickie Lynn Mallory and Michael of Florida; Barbara Ann Lender and Charles of Missouri; her brother Harry Albert Bernstel Jr. of Pennsylvania; many nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and the many lives she touched in the community with her involvement in the local 4-H Extension office. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 26th 2024 from 6pm to 8pm at Knauff Funeral Home in Chiefland, FL. A memorial service will be held at 6pm on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at the Williston City Hall in Williston, FL. For those that are desiring memorial contributions in lieu of flowers you may donate to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital or The Welsh Pony and Cob Society of America scholarship fund. For those that have reached out to assist Teri with the unexpected care and expense of the farm, contributions can be made to the following places: Ocala Breeders Feed and Supply (352-402-0303) and Larson Farms (352-867-8333) in Ocala, FL under Teri Heberling. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Knauff Funeral Home Chiefland. I've not met many people as kind and generous as Brenda. She always had a hug and kind word for everyone. When she attended our Welsh shows in North Carolina, I'd think of something that needed to be done and there was Brenda, already, as if reading my mind, taking care of it. I will miss her huge smile.
