Barbara Smith

Barbara "Bobbie" Merrill Smith, age 80, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at her home in Williston with her family by her side. She leaves behind a legacy of accomplishments that touched the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. Bobbie was born September 12, 1943, in Umatilla, FL, to Harry & Opal Merrill. In 1964, Bobbie graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelors degree in Nursing and was a life-long, passionate fan of the Florida State Seminoles. The next year she married Judge Joseph E. Smith on May 2, 1965. Together they shared a love that ran deep. While Bobbies work career spanned nursing, store ownership, and teen parent coordinator for Levy County, she was best known for her volunteer work. Her impact on the community of Williston and Levy County is hard to measure. She selflessly served a number of organizations including The General Federation of Womans Club of Williston, March of Dimes, Daughters of the American Revolution, Operation Smile, Teen Pregnancy Program, Williston School of Dance, The Levy County School Foundation, and Heifer Project International. As a follower of Jesus Christ, Bobbie was an integral part of First Methodist Church Williston, where her commitment to childrens ministry, womens ministry, and Sunday School have left an indelible mark on countless lives. Bobbie is survived by her loving husband, Joe, of 58 years. Her two children, Scott Smith (Kris) and Garnet Andrews (Dick), as well as her six grandchildren, Caleb Smith (Megan), Lauren Andrews, Joshua Smith, Emily Andrews, Jacob Smith, and Allison Andrews. She is also survived by her siblings, Jimmy Merrill (Laura), Don Merrill (Pam), Teena Stoneking (Alan), and many nieces and nephews. Bobbies family extend their deepest appreciation to Vitas Hospice for their compassionate care, and heartfelt thanks to her devoted caregivers Toni Strong, Fifi, McIntyre, and Joyce Bellamy- for their loving support. Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at First Methodist Church of Williston.
