Joseph Elko

Joseph F. Elko, 91, of Old Town, Florida passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 30, 2023. He was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on June 1, 1932. Joseph F. Elko is preceded in death by his parents Jacob and Margaret Tomaszewski, son Michael Elko, stepson Robert Curl and stepdaughter Paula Burke. Joseph was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was loved and respected by everyone who had the honor to know him. He served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force and dedicated 20 years of Military Service during the Korean and Vietnam War. He was a Commander of the Cedar Key Civil Air Patrol, Commander of the V.F.W. Post 5625 for 2 years, Commander of Amvets Post 422 for 2 years, Member of Moose Lodge, fanning springs, Florida and American Legion 383 Old Town, Florida. He was also a Mason for 60 years. After retirement, Joseph went to PVIT for Air Conditioning school and did A/C work many years. He then went on to be a Correctional Officer for Cross City for 13 years. He is survived by his wife of 40 years Vivian Elko, daughter Debbie Conrad (Mark) of Jacksonville, FL, step daughters Lisa Rivenbark (Dana) of Live Oak, Florida, Debbie Farmerie (Jeff) of Asheboro, North Carolina, step son Raymond Curl of Old Town, Florida, grandchildren Chris Meagley (Korey) of Live Oak, Florida, Kyle Meagley (Kimberley) of Cross City, Florida, Joey Burke (Kelly), David Richards, Matt Richards, Brandon Farmerie (Alexandrea) of Asheboro, North Carolina, Jemma and Olivia Curl of Old Town, Florida. Great grandchildren Kadee Meagley, Dakota Burke, Jonathan Richards and Hunter Richards and three sisters Diane Mitchell (Mike), Maryann Carney and Margie Zeiler (Frederick) of Johnstown, PA. A funeral service will be held at Knauff Funeral Home in Chiefland on Monday, November 6, 2023 at 10:00 AM. The family will receive friends for a visitation at 9:30AM. Father Augustine Nwagbara will officiate. Burial will follow at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
