Harry Thomas Watson passed away peacefully on November 11th, 2023 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida surrounded by his family after a long battle with an extended illness. Harry was born December 7th, 1948 in Gainesville, Florida to Lee and Ida Belle Watson. Harry grew up in Chiefland, Florida, graduating in 1966 from Chiefland High School where he developed lifelong friendships and an appreciation for learning. His childhood was an idyllic time in his life which he recalled fondly. Harry graduated from his beloved University of Florida in 1972 with a masters degree in history and political science. He was an avid sports fan but his favorite team was the Florida Gators. He enjoyed watching the Gators play football, traveling to many of the out-of-state games and almost all home games for over 30 years until his health declined. His favorite thing to do was be a father to his four children. Harry is survived by his wife of 44 years Betty Ann Watson; four children: Shannon Hudson (Ken) of Chiefland, FL, Burton Miller of Astatula, FL, Ashley Dean (Jeremy) of Chiefland, FL, and Thomas Watson (Hailey) of Brooker, FL; 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Harry did everything with honesty and integrity. His knowledge and guidance was the foundation of his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Ida Belle Watson, and his sisters Harlene Quincey Flannigen and Ida Lee Sellers. Harry was a strong fighter, but now he is sailing on a journey to shores we cannot see. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends for a visitation one hour prior. Services will be held at Knauff Funeral Home of Chiefland. Burial will follow at the Hardeetown Cemetery in Chiefland. Worked with Harry from 1979-1991 at Lancaster. Played basketball with him it seems like every week for several years where he was famous for his hook shot. We both loved the Gators and our job. We had a lot of common ground. His historical knowledge of the Gators was impressive. RIP Harry. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of your great life.
